Meet an Owner: “Senior Care Spoke to Me”
May 3, 2017
Tanya Finnerty, owner of Homewatch CareGivers in Carlsbad, California, talks about why she decided to make a career change to senior care.
Although working in project and operations management in the freight industry laid the groundwork for owning a small business, it was her heart’s desire that propelled her to take the leap from employee to owner.
“I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives,” she says. “I felt that I wanted to do something that is going to feel meaningful at the end of the day.”
Like many people who look into senior care, Tanya started her education as a family caregiver for her elderly parents. As a result, she really understands when families contact her office what they are going through and their needs. She has since added to her credentials and is a Certified Senior Advisor and Certified Home Manager.
Although she is clear that owning a business is not simply an investment of money but also of time and energy, she believes in the long-term goals. “Work hard and you will see the benefits,” she says.
