New Year’s Resolution: Make Your Life More Awesome!
January 5, 2017
We all have our own feelings about New Year’s resolutions. In fact, one of the top ten resolutions every year is to not make any resolutions. Ha-ha, right? While funny, that’s not really the point.
The tradition of making New Year’s resolutions is just another way of planning to improve one’s self by taking steps to quit a bad habit that is detrimental, add a new practice that can improve someone’s well-being (such as lose weight, eat better, learn a new sport or how to play an instrument), save more and spend less, or start a new job or career. Who can argue with self-improvement?
How Do These Things Go Together?
Among the top 10 resolutions each year are:
- Enjoy life to the fullest
- Spend more time with family and friends
- Learn something new
- Get fit/healthy
- Start a business
It might be possible that in changing jobs or careers, you can also achieve another goal or resolution. Maybe being your own boss would allow more freedom in your schedule and therefore lead to more time with family and friends. Or, in starting a new business you would be learning new ways of doing things at work every day.
One Resolution for You, One Resolution for Me…
For individuals making the leap from a steady job to business ownership, franchising can be a satisfying choice. The United States Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration put out a 2016 Top Market Report and found that franchise businesses continue to grow faster than the rest of the U.S. economy.
In becoming the owner of a franchise business, you also become an employer and are potentially able to help others successfully meet their personal goals or resolutions. In the senior care industry, there are typically in home caregivers to deliver the services and often these people say what they like about their work is a flexible schedule that allows them more time with friends and family (one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions). This flexibility can extend to the owner too once the business is up and running and they can work ON their business more than IN their business.
Depending on which franchise model you select, you might also be helping clients or customers fulfill their dreams or scratch a resolution off the list. The types of franchises available today range from teaching art to serving fast food to providing in home caregiving services. Since well-being is often a top resolution for people, someone who has a franchise home care agency can be improving the well-being of their clients by alleviating loneliness with companion care or giving a family caregiver a much needed break to maintain their own health.
Sure, we all tend to scoff at New Year’s resolutions—right up until we actually keep one and feel the difference in our lives. If your resolution for this year includes business ownership, visit our franchise opportunities website to learn more.
